Clarence Patrick Wagner

Clarence Patrick Wagner

June 1, 1938-January 12, 2024

C. Patrick Wagner, 85, of Indian Head Park, formerly of Christ the King Parish in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024. Pat was the loving and devoted husband of Isabelle (nee Birgel) for 59 years and the greatest dad of Patrick (Kristen), John (Maureen), Jeffrey (Whitney), Isabel (Michael) Hynes, Courtney (John) Kelly, Brooke (Vince) DeSapio, and the late baby Joseph. He also was the proudest and most adoring grandpa of Ben and the late baby Clarence Patrick; Brennan, Josephine, Kate, and Jack; Catherine, Caroline, and Andrew (mother Sarah); Isabel, Quinn, and Emmet Hynes; Carlin, Shea, Samantha, and Patrick Kelly; and Cecilia, Tessa, Lucia, and Ella DeSapio and a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Pat was born June 1, 1938 to Nora (nee Keyes) and Clarence Patrick Wagner and grew up on the South Side of Chicago in Visitation Parish with his siblings the late Cecile, Sister Clare, O.P., Patrice (the late Thomas) Schmitz, the late Michael (Mary), and Thomas (Diane). He attended Visitation Catholic School and then traveled to beautiful Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to attend Campion Jesuit High School. Pat graduated from John Carroll University, received his Juris Doctor from DePaul University Law School, and reached the rank of captain in the United States Army Reserve. Pat practiced law for 50 years and as an attorney he was part counselor, part parent, and part friend to his clients who deeply trusted and respected him. He was always willing to take the time to help anyone with their legal matters. He was honored by Sertoma where he served on the board for many years.

Most importantly, Pat was a loving dad who always knew what to say and what to do on any occasion and cherished the values of faith, family, and friends. He was a true gentleman and a quiet, humble teacher who set a wonderful example for everyone he met. He loved to laugh, have a good time, and enjoyed the simple things in life like sitting on a beach, grilling for his family, taking care of his yard, watching Notre Dame football games, or attending sporting events, especially those of his grandchildren. He adored every minute he spent with his wife Isabelle, his children, and his grandchildren.  His favorite place on earth was Stop 21 in Long Beach, Indiana.  This is where he met the love of his life, Isabelle Birgel from Brooklyn, in 1958 and where he vacationed since a newborn with his family at Sunnycrest, the family’s beloved summer home overlooking Lake Michigan.  Pat’s smile and grace will be missed. Pax vobiscum.
