James R. Corrigan
James Robert Corrigan died on Memorial Day, May 27, at the age of 78 on his way to a family barbeque. Jim lived in Beverly Shores, IN and previously in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. He was the loving husband and partner of Mary Stanton Corrigan for 31 years; proud father of Eileen (Chris) Conneely, Jim (Doreen) and Kevin Corrigan; and caring Papa of Emily, Ellie and Matthew Conneely and Finn, Reese and Blaire Corrigan. Jim was the son of the late John and Jean (Zajac), brother of the late Phil (Judy) and best brother to Geri (the late Tom) Allaire. He was a favored uncle to dozens of nieces and nephews and the eldest out-law in the Stanton family.
Jim grew up over his father’s tavern on the west side of Chicago and graduated from St. Patrick High School in 1964 and Lewis College in 1968. He served in the US Army from 1968 to 1970. He began his career as a finance administrator for the Chicago Public Schools and later became a Certified Financial Planner helping educators and others plan for a happy, secure retirement.
Jim loved his work on the boards of Health Care Service Corporation (parent company of Blue Cross Blue Shield), Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Special Olympics Illinois (SOILL), and as a director of the Stack Family Foundation. Jim provided leadership and made connections that helped each organization grow and succeed.
Jim enjoyed bringing people together; whether behind the goal posts at ND, enjoying cocktails on the beach, or coaching, he was happy with his people. He faithfully lunched with his Lewis classmates at Merichka’s, annually hosted the Cowboys for Moon in June golf, and stayed in close touch with staff and board friends from the Blues, SOILL and Mercy Home. In Beverly Shores, he will be most remembered for organizing Tuesday golf and monthly happy hours for the all the guys in town.
Jim was a connector and because of his efforts to include us all, the world is a better place.
Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11:00 am.
Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory to Special Olympics Illinois (soill.org) and Mercy Home for Boys and Girls (mercyhome.org) are appreciated.
