Mahendra Ishvar Bhai Amin
January 2, 1937 – July 29, 2024
Mahendra Ishvar Bhai Amin, 87, longtime resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, at home in Chicago’s River North neighborhood.
Born and raised in India, Mahendra was the first in his family to move to the United States in the early 1960’s. He was a founder in his community and helped countless others immigrate and start their lives here. His welcoming arms and home were always open for others, accompanied by his big smile.
After earning his PhD in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing from the University of Wisconsin, Mahendra enjoyed a successful career as a research scientist at Upjohn (now Pfizer).
Cherished husband of Saroj Amin; devoted father of Mona (Bhupesh) Patel and Rakesh Mahendra (Sonal) Amin; very proud grandfather of Radhika (Suhag) Patel, Nisha Patel, and twins Sohan and Shyla Amin.
He was preceded in death by three siblings and his parents.
Mahendra was a happy-go-lucky, free spirit, who loved to spread joy and wisdom to others. Family and faith were important to him. Mahendra was very caring and giving to his family, friends and always around to help. He helped to build confidence in others and always said “never take your life too seriously”.
Hindu service by Priest with visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Bohemian Cemetery 5255 North Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60630, witnessed cremation will conclude the services.
