February 13, 2025 – 6:00pm cst
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William J. “Bill” Clegg, age 71, of Lockport, who peacefully entered eternal rest at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Joliet and raised in Mokena, Bill made Lockport his home in 1996 and has been there since. He was a dedicated and hardworking member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Union Local #734, spending many years behind the wheel for Wilhelmi Beverages and Wonder Bread. A true sports fanatic, Bill found joy in every game; whether playing, watching, or officiating. His passion for youth sports as an umpire left a lasting impact on countless young athletes, and he loved the camaraderie of golfing and fishing with family and friends. Bill was a simple man who found happiness in life’s everyday moments. He cherished his morning coffee and weekly grocery trips with his beloved wife, Debbie, who was his world. He loved traveling to Lake Havasu, Arizona, which held a special place in his heart. More than anything, Bill loved being surrounded by family. He shared an unbreakable bond with Kelly, Stacey, and Annette. He treasured spending holidays at their home, especially Christmas. Bill held this time to a higher standard. It was a time filled with laughter, love, and the warmth of those he held dear.
He is now reunited with those who went before him, his parents, Michael and June (née Sparre) Clegg; his beloved granddaughter, Courtney Flynn; his brothers, Michael, Marty, and Daniel Clegg; and his sister, Phylliss Clegg.
Bill leaves behind his devoted wife, Debra (née Dunifer) Clegg, who was his rock and greatest love; his children: Annette (Justin) Flynn, Kelly (Angela) Laphen, Stacey (Louis) Rojek, Kellie (Mike) Butterbach, Andrea (John) Davenport, and Bill (Emily) Clegg Jr.; his dear sister, Arlene Johnson; and his cherished grandchildren: Bethany, Madison, Louis Jr., Stella, and Sage, who brought him endless joy. He also has additional grandchildren; Sophie, Charlie, Cecilla, Oliver, and Kate. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley (late Wally) White, and many other beloved family members and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Bill’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and dedication to those he held dear. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in his name to Lightways Hospice, a place that provided him with care and comfort in his final days. Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts. He will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lightways Hospice in Bill’s name would be greatly appreciated.
