Jose C. Guerrero, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022, surrounded by family in Berwyn, IL.
He was born on February 5, 1933, in Baras, Catanduanes, Philippines to Jose S. Guerrero Sr. and Concepcion Chavez. He married the love of his life Dr. Virgilia A. Guerrero and moved to the United States with their 3 children to work as a Mechanical Engineer for Sargent & Lundy and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. Together with his wife, they actively participated in many endeavors to promote Filipinos in the Chicagoland area.
Jose was the Founder and Charter President of Catanduanes International Association (the other CIA) in 1991 and have helped thousands of Catandonganons through medical and humanitarian efforts. His list of participation in the Filipino community included. Pres. of PESO (Philippine Engineer & Scientist Organization), Pres. Of Bicol-USA, and Pres. of Fil-Am Voters League. He loved to serve and support his fellow Filipinos as well as anyone he encountered. His generosity knew no boundaries.
Upon waking up during one of his recent hospital stays, he looked at his wife and thanked her for 58 wonderful years of marriage and for 3 wonderful children. Family meant everything to him, and he is greatly missed by them. His family is forever grateful for his unconditional love and unwavering support and will never forget his hilarious sense of humor.
Jose is survived by his devoted wife Dr. Virgilia A. Guerrero; son; COL (Ret) Rommel A. Guerrero (Alethea); 2 daughters; Dr. Susan Guerrero Gray; Virginia Cheng-Mankiewicz (Robert); grandchildren; Julius L. Cheng; Aaron R. Guerrero (great grand-son Kody); Leah Cheng-Ogletree (Connor); Alexis and Adrianna Guerrero. He was loved and called Grandpa G by Josh Mankiewicz, Lydia Mankiewicz and great grandchildren Christian & Mya.
He will be missed by his surviving siblings Atty. Pio (dec. Tonieng); Ramon (Rose); Dr. Teresita Panti (dec. Raul); Hermil (Baby), and Joseph; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Helen, Lily, and Susan.
We are all better for having known you and blessed beyond measure for being a part of our lives.
