Steve Canty
January 29, 1941 – April 16, 2023
Steve Canty, longtime resident of Oak Lawn, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
As his family’s strong iron man and beloved patriarch, it’s hard for them to imagine a world without him in it.
Steve was born in Chicago on January 29, 1941, to his parents Ed and Ruby. He was the second youngest of his nine siblings. Steve loved the fact that he came from a big family and genuinely cared deeply for his siblings and their families.
Steve and his late wife Jackie married in 1980 and welcomed Jennie and Jacqueline to join their big sister Kimberly, from Steve’s first marriage.
Steve had a long, successful career as a Local 63 Architectural and Ornamental Ironworker as well as elected Business Manager. He loved his career and was so proud of all of the men and women he shared the job with.
Having recently been diagnosed with progressed pancreatic cancer he faced that hurdle with the most positive and inspiring attitude.
Steve is survived by his daughters Jennie (Michael) and Jacqueline (Deb), son-in-law Michael Loth, his beloved grandchildren, Benjamin, Estelle, Grace, Sullivan and Burnham, his sisters Sandra (Jim) and June, and sister-in-law Mare. He also leaves behind many family members, friends, nieces, nephews and his grandog, Albert Nobbs.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Darlene, second wife Jackie, siblings Jacqueline, Margaret, Edward, Bob, Carol and Keith, and daughter Kimberly.
Steve will be missed tremendously. The world is a better place because Steve was in it. He was a beacon of hope and kindness.
Steve was our very own George Bailey.
