Eugene Walter Niemiec

Eugene Walter Niemiec

January 31, 1933 – March 14, 2025

Eugene Walter Niemiec passed away Friday, March 14th, 2025 at the golden age of 92. Although the last few months were unhappy, overall he had a very happy life. Everybody remembers his grin, his silly “dad jokes”, and his songs and stories.

Gene was married for almost 68 wonderful years to his beloved wife Marie (nee’ Liture) who misses him greatly. He was the devoted father of son Daniel, who wishes he could call Dad just one more time.

Gene is also survived by in-laws Marlene Niemiec, Carl and Maryann Liture, H. D. and Helen Newell, Anthony DiCapua and Helen DiCapua, cousin MaryAnn Dranchak of Oregon, and many nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Gene. David, Vincent, Darrin, Linda, Carolyn, Matthew, John, Mark, Gwen, Eddie-Joe, Sheila, Tammy, Junior, Susan, Kathy, Denise, Fred and Michelle all grew up with Uncle Gene and probably all of them have stories. He was truly a memorable character.

Gene was the eldest and last survivor of “The Four Musketeers”, including Dave Corrado, his brother Ray Niemiec, and Al Malchiodi. These four dads took us cousins on fishing trips that have filled our lives with stories for decades. Each of them is referred to as “The Man, The Myth, The Legend”. Gene was all that and more.

He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Anna Niemiec, brother Raymond, cousins Joseph, Stanley, and Anna Niemiec, George Kurgan and Eleanor Kavouras, Mary Nowik and John Sawchuk, and Thaddeus Niemiec from Alaska. He was also predeceased by in-laws Attilio and Ann Cammarato, Edward and Estelle Henning, and Nathan and Alice Newell.

Gene was born on January 31st, 1933 in Chicago and worked for his father’s trucking company before eventually taking a job as Production Manager at Commercial Forged Products that lasted from 1959 to 1991. He enjoyed a long retirement that took him to Gobles, Michigan, Stuart Florida, and finally Park City, Illinois, along with the family home in Burbank, Illinois.

He spent a few years in the Illinois National Guard where he made a lot of friendships that lasted for decades.

There were only two times Gene would burst into song: when he had a martini, and when he didn’t! Those songs were old (he liked Perry Como and Lawrence Welk) but we wouldn’t miss them for the world!
