Frank McDermott, age 103, native of Ballyconnell, County Cavan, Ireland, passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2024 in his home at Peace Village where he was living happily and independently.
Frank immigrated to America in 1947 where he settled in Chicago and met and married his devoted wife of 67 years Nora (née Huane). He spent his career with the CTA and was a proud member of IBEW Local #134. Frank had a strong faith and was an active parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish, celebrating his 100th Birthday there with a Mass surrounded by close neighbors, friends and family. He joined Our Lady of the Woods Parish upon moving to Peace Village in Palos Park. Frank was a dedicated volunteer of the Irish American Heritage Center, and proud to attend the annual Christmas Mass and Breakfast and see its continued success.
Frank was the son of Francis and Ellie. He had three siblings, the late Margaret (late Frank), late Packy (late Kathleen), and late John (late Kitty) who joined him in Chicago. Frank’s long life allowed him to observe a great many changes in the world as was noted in a letter he received from the President of Ireland upon turning 100. He never lost his interest in the world around him, never stopped learning, and never slowed down. Frank was a valued friend to many, but especially close to his brother John and brother in law the late Michael (Sheila) Holland. A proud Uncle of his many nephews and nieces in the United States, Ireland and England.
Family and friends will meet at Our Lady of the Woods Church, 10731 W. 131st St., Orland Park, IL 60462 on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, for visitation 9:00am-10:00am.
Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am.
Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
