Lucille M. Carroll

Lucille M. Carroll

January 29, 1940  –  January 17, 2025

Lucille M. (Hynes) Carroll, 84, who lived a life dedicated to family, friends and laughter, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, after a courageous journey through Alzheimer’s and a recent cancer discovery. Lu lived every day of her life with kindness, dignity and grace.

Lu said goodbye to her beloved husband, William P. Carroll, 25 years ago, and once noted what she missed most about him was, “laughing every day.” She was the world’s best mom (and mother-in-law) to Michael (Jen, nee Gobiele) Carroll, Peggy (David) Carroll-Prescott, and Thomas (Lena, nee Curtis). Her favorite role in life was cheerleader for her grandsons, Patrick Bruno, Billy Carroll, Kevin Carroll, Johnny Carroll, Danny Carroll, Jimmy Carroll, and great-grandson, Sebastian Bruno, at their sporting events. She was also a cherished aunt to the O’Connell, Carroll and Goodman nieces, nephews (including great- and great-greats). Lu was a friend to all, and as recently as last fall, enjoyed her monthly lunches with “the gals,” with some of those friendships dating back to grammar school.

Lu was proud of her Irish Catholic heritage, born to Irish immigrants, Michael (from Offaly) and Cecelia (from Mayo) Hynes on January 29, 1940. Sister to the late Rita (nee Hynes) O’Connell and Eugene Hynes. Rita and Lu would talk and laugh for hours on end.

In her youth, Lucille was an accomplished competitive Irish dancer in the vibrant southside Irish community of Chicago. She received numerous medals and trophies, dancing with the Pat Roche Irish Dancers. Lu was also featured in the book, Steps in Time: The History of Irish Dance in Chicago.

Lu remembered her Fox Business School years fondly, which led to her working at A. Daegar, where she met her husband-to-be, Bill, as well as many life-long friends. She was also proud of her years working at Baird & Warner Real Estate, where she worked once her children were raised. She worked there until Bill’s retirement, where they spent much of their time traveling.
