Special uncle of many nieces and nephews in the United States, UK and Ireland. Fond brother-in-law of Desmond (Maura) Corley, the late Rita, Sr. Monica, Patrick, Mary (the late Tommy) McCarville and John (the late Rita) Corley.Jerry McMahon left Ireland as a young man but Ireland never left him. In spirit and conversation, and in song and dance, he was forever enamored of his homeland, which he often referred to nostalgically as “the Old Country” and, to his kids, “Big Ireland Boat.” He was born in Castleisland, County Kerry, and grew up on a farm in the nearby townland of Cragg.  He was the eldest of seven children born to beloved mother Catherine (nee Murphy) and John McMahon. In his late 20s, Jerry settled in Chicago, where he met and fell in love with Kathleen Teresa Corley, also of County Monaghan, Ireland. They married in 1958 and had nine children. Jerry worked a long and storied career in construction, building several dozen homes on the South Side and in the suburbs. He could be laugh-out-loud funny, with charming stories from his childhood and jokes he’d hear from his countless friends, all told in his distinct Kerry brogue. He was passionate about Irish football and a loyal supporter of his Kerry team, the green and gold. A favorite pastime was watching matches at Gaelic Park, which he and Teresa proudly supported. He also loved live music, especially the Irish classics, and he was never happier than when waltzing away with his lifelong love, Teresa, smiling from ear to ear.Funeral Wednesday 9:45am from RICHARD J.
